Memphis in May hosts the city’s largest events like the Beale Street Music Festival, the World
Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest and the Sunset Symphony. Memphis in May also produces
extensive education, international, and economic programs for the city. Memphis in May International Festival is more than its events. It’s also a 501-C(3) not-for-profit,
community-based organization that contributes to the economic growth of the community,
fosters civic pride, promotes awareness of Memphis heritage and builds international relationships.
Beale Street Music Festival
Where tickets start at $35 a pop and located in a beautiful 25 acre on Riverfront, The Beale
Street Music Festival has been around for 37 years. Each year the event attracts music goers
and artists from across the nation and foreign countries as well. Over the years, the festival has
attracted 1.1 million music fans to the multi-tasking three day event. The Blues Festival is known
for its mix of contemporary rock, blues, soul, and modern talent.
The music festival has played host to a broad array of diverse and notable contemporary
musical talents such as; the Dave Matthews Band, John Mellencamp, Van Morrison, Flaming Lips,
Foo Fighters, Stone Temple Pilots, Bob Dylan, Kid Rock, John Mayer, MGMT, Santana, Cee Lo Green,
Jack Johnson, Aretha Franklin, Beck, James Taylor, Fergie, Jason Mraz, Lou Reed, Katy Perry,
Ben Harper, The Killers, Steely Dan, Fall Out Boy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Legend, Sheryl Crow,
B.B. King, Shinedown, Fleetwood Mac, John Lee Hooker, Sarah McLachlan, the Allman Brothers Band,

Salute to Sweden
Memphis in May will pay homage to the beautiful nordic country of Sweden. The festival will
focus on the country’s cultures, customs, cuisine, and commerce.
Barbeque Cooking Contest
May 16-18 Tom Lee Park
Hundreds of teams compete for over $110,000 in prizes and bragging rights. Participants
have a blast decorating their booths with food and trophies.
Banks of the Mississippi river
A picnic type scene hosts an Auto zone sponsored “Sunset Symphony”. This is an all day
family reunion with local performers opening the show. The show also features vintage WWII
and concept aircraft such as the Corsair, Hawker, Stearman and Russian Yak. Watch as the pilots
perform aerial stunts and multiple high-speed fly-by. As the sun sets, the Memphis Symphony
Orchestra performs smooth sounds.
As the sun goes down, the skies light up with a spectacular fireworks show, sponsored by Bank
of America, orchestrated in part with the Symphony performance.
You’ll look over the river in awe of this magnificent show! Auto Zone Sunset Symphony…a day of family
fun in the park…an exciting Air Show by the Commemorative Air Force…a legendary performance the lush sounds of
the Memphis Symphony Orchestra…and fireworks illuminating downtown Memphis.
